Our story
Australian farms remain one of the most dangerous workplaces. There were 133 injuries and 58 deaths on farms in 2019. In North East Tasmania, there have been five fatalities in the past four years - four associated with tractors and the other an electrocution.
Research revealed most on-farm induction processes are inadequate, failing to identify workplace hazards and practical management strategies.
AgCard, a proud initiative of Primary Employers Tasmania, was launched in July 2020 to assist farmers to achieve best practice. The practical online training portal was funded by WorkCover Tasmania and supported by Safe Farming Tasmania, Wine Tasmania, Fruit Growers Tasmania and Dairy Tasmania.
In 2023, AgCard was purchased by Farmsafe Australia.
“Primary Employers Tasmania’s AgCard is an invaluable tool to enable our students to gain a insight into health and safety best practice on farms. Many will proudly display their AgCard certificate when they apply for jobs in Tasmania’s growing agricultural sector as we know farmers recognise the value of the AgCard course and certification.”
